Clarendon Park, Salford

Field Trip to Salford with Joy France (4th Feb 2019) – Observations of Institute of Cultural Practices postgraduate students and teachers

Salford Arts Theatre is located next to Clarendon Park and Langworthy Park, both of which have been neglected for some time. What used to be the heart of the local community is now a walking route to get from one place to another, with little meaningful engagement. Joy France spends time in these spaces to ‘gently disrupt’ these every day routes, and encourage locals to re-think and re-connect with their green space.

Salford Arts Theatre also have their own community engagement programmes, which share commonalities with Joy’s work. The theatre has a neighbouring garden which it maintains, but the areas also referred to as Clarendon Park appears derelict. There are remnants of basket ball courts and a children’s play area.
