Joy France has multiple unicorn masks which she uses both for her own performances and to engage with people in her local green spaces and at her residency at Afflecks.
Each of her unicorn heads have different features and personalities, some are fluffy, colourful and glittery, others are more worn, damaged or ‘punk’. Joy uses these masks to show younger children that not all unicorns are the same. She uses this analogy when thinking about parks and urban green spaces. Whilst some parks such as Clarendon Park may not have the traditional features of a public park, it does not mean that it is not beautiful, one just has to think about and utilise the space in a different way.
